THE JOY OF VICTORY!

BYU’s Austen Jorgensen pumps his fist as the BYU defense stops the Washington Huskies on September 4, 2010 in the final minutes to ensure victory. Congratulations to Austen and the rest of the his team!

I love the look on his face! It’s one of confidence, accomplishment and pure joy! I just want to use this picture to make a few of my favorite quotes mean a little more as you read them.

“I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious.”
~ Vince Lombardi

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens. “
~ Kahlil Gibran

“Nothing on earth can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal.”
~ Thomas Jefferson

“We who lived in the concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: The last of his freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
~ Viktor E. Frankl- Man’s Search for Meaning

“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision.”
~ Muhammad Ali

“For me, winning isn’t something that happens suddenly on the field when the whistle blows and the crowds roar. Winning is something that builds physically and mentally every day that you train and every night that you dream.”
~ Emmit Smith

“You were not born a winner, and you were not born a loser. You are what you make yourself be.”
~ Lou Holtz

Thanks for the inspiration Austen! Sometimes it is about the destination! The joy you feel when you reach your dream despite the obstacles of the journey! May we all have the courage to “choose our own way” and be as the great poet William Ernest Henley said in Invictus “The masters of our fates and  the captains of our souls!”

DREAM!!!!    BELIEVE!!!!    ACHIEVE!!!!
